Minister of Culture, Mohammad Yassin Saleh, met on Tuesday with Ann Sofie Bekdorff, the charge d'affaires of the German Embassy in Damascus, to discuss ways to enhance cultural relations between Syria and Germany, serving their common aspirations. Minister Saleh emphasized the importance of restoring Syria's cultural role throughout its history, which has been distorted and erased systematically by the former regime. He mentioned that the ministry is currently working on outlining a cultural vision that reflects the identity and aspirations of the Syrian people, through strategic perspectives that involve reviewing policies and laws, and activating frameworks that position culture as a tool for change and social reconstruction. Bekdorff, in turn, noted the openness and positive direction observed in cultural and governmental institutions in Syria, confirming a mutual willingness to build relationships based on respect and mutual work. She highlighted the common ground that serves as a starting point towards meeting cultural and social needs. This meeting is part of the growing cultural movement in Syria, within the context of the Ministry of Culture's efforts to strengthen regional and international partnerships that contribute to restoring the central role of Syrian culture.
