The Lebanese Army launched a wide-ranging security operation today, Wednesday, August 6, in the "Sharawneh" area of Baalbek Governorate in eastern Lebanon, targeting a number of individuals wanted for security reasons.

According to local media, the army used drones to carry out precise strikes, during which the home of Ali Zaiter, nicknamed "Abu Sallah," one of the most wanted individuals in the area, was targeted. The clashes also resulted in the death of another person named Abbas Zaiter.

This operation came just two days after a military force, supported by a patrol from the Intelligence Directorate, raided a house in the town of Shamsar in Baalbek, where quantities of weapons and military ammunition were seized.

These security movements come amid rising fears among Lebanese people regarding the deterioration of the security situation, especially after the Lebanese government announced yesterday that it had tasked the army with developing a field plan to control the weapons not under its control, in a clear reference to Hezbollah's weapons.

In response, Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Sheikh Naeem Qassem, confirmed that the party "will not give up its weapons until the Israeli forces withdraw from southern Lebanon and the prisoners are released."

It is worth noting that the Sharawneh area has witnessed the presence of a large number of individuals wanted for security reasons for years, in addition to known drug traffickers. Hezbollah has previously been accused of providing cover for some of these wanted individuals, under the pretext of "the necessity to settle their situations with the security agencies."
