The Israeli Knesset voted today, Wednesday, in favor of a bill calling on the government to impose Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank, with a majority of 71 votes in favor and 13 members opposed.

The bill states that the West Bank and the Jordan Valley "are an integral part of the historic homeland of the Jewish people," and calls for strategic steps to solidify what they described as "historical rights" and achieve national security.

It emphasizes that "this step will clarify to the world that Israel will not accept solutions involving dangerous regional concessions, and that it is committed to its future as a secure Jewish state."

The bill is not binding and does not impose any executive steps on the government.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated: "Proposals on the agenda will not have any operational effects and will not affect the legal status of the West Bank."

Yisrael Gantz, head of the settlement council "Yesha," called on the government to translate this decision into practical steps, saying: "We are at a historic moment that must not be missed. Sovereignty will enhance Israel's security and embody our right to this land."

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said during the debate: "I appeal to the Prime Minister: Let us not engage in reckless deals. We must have complete and absolute control over Gaza as well. Crushing, sovereignty, encouraging immigration, and settlement — this is what we need to do in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) as well."
