The Israeli Cabinet Discusses the Plan to Occupy Gaza Today

The spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Security Cabinet (the Cabinet) will hold an emergency meeting this evening, Tuesday, in Jerusalem, to discuss the developments in the Gaza Strip.

According to Israeli media, the agenda of the meeting will focus on discussing a military plan to completely occupy the city of Gaza, amid ongoing military escalation, alongside resuming negotiations regarding a ceasefire and the release of Israeli detainees held by Hamas in the strip.

In a related context, the Forum of Families of Israeli Detainees has called for widespread protests today coinciding with the Cabinet meeting, in an attempt to pressure the government to expedite efforts to release their detained sons.

On the ground, Israel continues to escalate its violent military operations in Gaza, where medical sources in the strip reported the death of 20 Palestinians due to airstrikes since the early hours of this Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a correspondent for Al Arabiya channel confirmed that the number of Palestinian casualties in the past 24 hours has exceeded 100, in one of the most intense waves of attacks since the war began.

The correspondent noted that the Israeli army is carrying out complete demolition and bombing operations of residential neighborhoods in the Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods east of Gaza City, causing widespread destruction and almost total paralysis of civilian life in those areas.

The roots of the current war trace back to the surprise attack launched by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the death of 1,219 people, according to official Israeli statistics.

In contrast, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reveals alarming figures for human losses, as the number of deaths due to Israeli attacks since the war began has reached 62,744 martyrs, the majority of whom are civilians, amid international warnings of an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the strip.

The international community is awaiting the results of the Cabinet meeting, amid fears that the occupation plan will turn into a new bloody reality that complicates the scene further and deepens the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
