The Fars news agency reported today, Tuesday, that Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian has appointed Ali Larijani as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Larijani is considered one of the senior advisors to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his appointment comes amid institutional changes following a 12-day air war with Israel in June.

Larijani, a former member of the Revolutionary Guard, held the same high-security position from 2005 to 2007 and presided over the parliament from 2008 to 2020.

Larijani replaces Ali Akbar Ahmadian, who held the position in 2023.
