The Spanish police have arrested a 19-year-old young man, known as the "Ghost Hacker," on charges of carrying out more than 40 cyber-attacks on governmental and military organizations, including NATO and the U.S. Army.
The successful security operation was conducted by the Spanish National Police in collaboration with the Civil Guard and digital experts. The suspect was apprehended in the tourist town of Calpe. During a search of his residence, advanced computer equipment and over 50 accounts of cryptocurrencies used to finance his illegal activities were found.
According to the investigations, the hacker used aliases online and leaked sensitive data of employees and citizens by breaching prominent institutions such as the Spanish Civil Guard and the Ministry of Defense.
This suspected young man faces multiple charges, including unauthorized access to computer systems, disclosure of secrets, and money laundering, reminiscent of another case in 2023 where a young man was arrested for hacking prominent Spanish government institutions and stealing personal data of half a million individuals.
These large-scale cyber operations pose a security challenge to the world, emphasizing the importance of enhancing security measures to protect sensitive data from increasing cyber threats. Relevant authorities must take more effective actions to combat these cybercrimes and safeguard critical systems and data.
