The fate of "TikTok" in America: Trump opens the door for deal extension.

In a significant development in the technological confrontation between the United States and China, President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the possibility of extending the deadline granted to the Chinese company "ByteDance" to complete the sale of the "TikTok" app operations in the United States, indicating positive signs that push him to be optimistic about reaching a close agreement. In an interview with NBC News, Trump expressed his desire to finalize the deal, saying: "I would like to see this deal completed." He also did not hide his admiration for the app, mentioning that it greatly helped him reach the youth demographic during the last presidential elections, and added: "TikTok is very interesting but it will be protected." Trump had already extended the final deadline for the separation of TikTok's operations in the United States twice, the latest in April, as his administration seeks to compel ByteDance to sell its activities in the American market to a local entity, in compliance with a law passed in 2024 by bipartisan consensus in Congress, which requires the Chinese company to withdraw from the app within the United States by June 19. TikTok is one of the most widely used applications in the United States, with around 170 million Americans using it to share short videos, making it a sensitive focal point in the battle for data and technological sovereignty between Washington and Beijing. Amidst this tension, American efforts continue to determine the future of the app, amid growing concerns about the possibility of it being used to collect user data for China's benefit, a claim strongly denied by ByteDance. The fate of the deal remains pending, awaiting a political resolution that may transcend its commercial dimensions to broader strategic messages between the two superpowers.
