The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Army congratulates Saddam Haftar and affirms support for military cooperation with Libya

The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Osama Ahmed Khalifa, sent a congratulatory message to Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar on the occasion of his appointment as Deputy Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces, affirming Cairo's commitment to continue military and security cooperation with Libya in various fields, which enhances the security and stability of the region and addresses common threats.
The Egyptian congratulations came following welcoming Libyan positions regarding the decision, where the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, described the appointment as "wise" reflecting confidence in Haftar's son’s competence and experience, while the Prime Minister of Libya, Osama Hamad, considered the decision a strategic step in line with the 2030 vision for the development of the armed forces.
In contrast, the Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, expressed his reservations about the appointment, emphasizing that any new position at the top of the military leadership hierarchy should be issued by a decision from the Supreme Commander of the Army represented by the Presidential Council as a whole, according to the applicable legislation. Al-Lafi called for an urgent meeting to discuss the step and ensure compliance with the laws regulating the work of the military institution, in a way that preserves the unity of the army and the independence of its decisions.
