African Union Welcomes France's Decision to Recognize Palestine

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomed the announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron of his intention to officially recognize the state of Palestine in September.
Youssouf stated, "The French announcement is in line with the consistent position of the African Union, reaffirmed during the thirty-eighth ordinary session of the Union's conference held on February 15-16, 2025 in Addis Ababa. The session reiterated Africa's collective commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state."
The Chairperson of the Commission considered this development as a significant step towards a just, lasting, and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
