The 40th edition of the Syrian Women's Basketball League kicks off with the participation of six clubs.

The 40th edition of the Syrian Women's Basketball League for First Division clubs kicks off today, with the participation of six clubs after the withdrawal of "Al-Thawra" (the defending champion), "Al-Ashrafieh," and "Huttin" for various reasons.
In Aleppo's Shahbaa Group, Al-Ahli Club will face Yarmouk at Al-Jalaa Club's hall at 5:00 PM, while Al-Hurriya Club will play against Al-Jalaa at the same time at Yarmouk Club's hall. In Damascus, the main hall of Al-Fayhaa will host the match between Al-Wahda and Barda in the southern group at 6:00 PM.
The match between Al-Wahda and Barda is expected to be the most exciting in the first round, as the two teams have met nine times since 2021 in league and cup competitions, with Al-Wahda winning seven times compared to Barda's two victories. Al-Ahli is favored against Yarmouk, which relies mostly on young players under 18 years old, while Al-Jalaa is predicted to win against its neighbor Al-Hurriya.
It is worth mentioning that the league started on October 18 and lasted until November 30, 2024, before being canceled due to the country's circumstances.
In the previous 39 editions, titles were distributed among five clubs, with Al-Jalaa being the most crowned with 12 titles, followed by Al-Hurriya with 10 titles, then Al-Wahda with 9 titles, Al-Thawra with 7 titles, while Yarmouk won the title only once.
