Following an American proposal regarding the possibility of a nuclear agreement with Iran, the latter called on the White House on Monday to provide "guarantees" regarding the lifting of imposed sanctions. The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baqai, stated in a weekly press conference in Tehran, "We want guarantees regarding the lifting of sanctions," adding, "So far, the American side has not been willing to clarify this issue." Iran's demands come after a report by the United Nations showing that it has intensified the production of enriched uranium. The International Atomic Energy Agency reported on Sunday that Iran has accelerated the production of 60% enriched uranium, close to the 90% level required for military use, a week before the meeting of the agency's Board of Governors in Vienna.
