The Syrian Ministry of Information announced today, Wednesday, the conditions for licensing a TV channel and an online platform to operate in Syria, as part of the ministry's efforts to regulate the work of media institutions of various kinds.

The ministry explained in a statement published on its official accounts on social media platforms that an applicant for a TV channel license must be of Syrian nationality, or the like, holding a university degree, or having at least five years of experience in the media field.

The ministry stipulated the necessity of owning or renting a headquarters for the channel with an area of no less than 160 square meters, equipped with necessary infrastructure and essential facilities, and paying a fee of twenty thousand US dollars for new licenses, and half the fee for renewals, or the equivalent amount in Syrian currency upon completion of the licensing procedures, to be deposited in the central bank.

The ministry also emphasized the availability of qualified human resources to operate the channel, compliance with the laws and regulations in force in Syria, and the determination of a license duration of five years renewable.

As for licensing an online platform, the ministry required that the licensee be of Syrian nationality or the like, and the application must be submitted by the platform owner or their legal representative, specifying the platform's name and providing a copy of its bylaws, as well as having a dedicated office and qualified human resources.
