Syrian Minister of Transport discusses mechanisms to enhance coordination with the Planning Authority

During the meeting, Dr. Badr emphasized the strategic importance of integrating accurate statistical data into the decision-making process, stressing that this step is fundamental to improving the effectiveness of projects and achieving developmental goals in the transport sector.
Badr also pointed out that cooperation with the Planning and Statistics Authority will be a key driver in prioritizing investments in the transport sector, ensuring performance sustainability, and achieving optimal results.
In turn, the President of the authority, Anas Salim, presented the authority's work plan and its mechanisms in building an integrated statistical system that contributes to formulating sectoral policies and providing accurate databases to support the crystallization of future developmental policies, confirming that the authority adopts the latest methodological and scientific approaches in collecting and analyzing data on a real-time and monthly basis.
He also explained that the authority provides a set of performance indicators related to the nature of the transport sector, such as passenger volume, truck movement, road safety rates, and other vital indicators that enable monitoring the performance evolution in this sector.
Salim emphasized the importance of activating the role of the Planning Directorate in the Ministry of Transport, equipping it with specialized and qualified cadres to enable it to prepare strategic studies, plans, and research, contributing to supporting sustainable development and enhancing governmental performance efficiency.
The meeting addressed a number of developmental and technical files, including the importance of activating a joint digital platform to monitor key performance indicators and track the implementation of major projects in real-time, in addition to agreeing to form a joint team of experts from both sides to formulate the strategic vision and concepts, and develop systems for sectoral collaboration.
It was emphasized that this cooperation represents a qualitative leap in the approach to managing transport projects, through a tight link between planning and statistics, supporting the achievement of national goals in improving services and developing the transport network.
