Syrian Minister of Transport, Dr. Yarob Badr, met on Wednesday with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rola Dashti, and her accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance technical cooperation between the two sides. The meeting addressed ways to develop technical cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and ESCWA, especially in the areas of domestic transport, sustainable transport, road safety, infrastructure, and supporting regional connectivity projects to improve the efficiency of transport networks at both national and regional levels. Dr. Badr emphasized the importance of partnership with ESCWA and utilizing the technical expertise it provides in planning and development fields, pointing out the challenges facing the transport sector and the need to combine efforts to overcome them. Dr. Dashti, in turn, stressed ESCWA's commitment to supporting Syria's efforts in developing the transport sector, expressing the organization's readiness to provide technical support, advice, capacity-building programs, and enhance regional integration. In a statement to "SANA," Dashti mentioned the potential for cooperation with the Ministry of Transport in various areas, including public transport, digital transformation, sustainable transport, railway network development, as well as strengthening ties between Syria and Arab countries to expand intra-regional trade, develop Syrian export industries, and deliver products to regional and international markets. She emphasized the importance of employing modern technology, organizing the work environment, and updating laws and regulations to attract investments to Syria's transport sector in all its fields. It is worth mentioning that this visit is part of a tour by Dr. Dashti to discuss development priorities and mutual cooperation with several Syrian government entities.
