Minister of Finance of Syria, Dr. Mohammad Yasar Barinia, met on Thursday with the Libyan Minister of Finance, Khalid Al-Mabrouk, to discuss enhancing cooperation in the financial sector, developing joint companies between the two countries, and strengthening economic and investment cooperation, on the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank Group meetings in Algeria. During the meeting, Minister Barinia discussed with his Libyan counterpart the current status of Syrian-Libyan joint companies, ways to improve and develop them, and enhance their investments in Syria. They also agreed on an action plan and next steps to further develop cooperation between the two sides. It is worth mentioning that there are four joint companies between the two countries in the fields of reinsurance, agricultural development, contracting, and land transport, in addition to a fifth company, the Syrian-Libyan Company for Agricultural Investments, with the finance ministers of both countries overseeing these five companies. Minister Barinia stated that Syria's participation in the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Algeria today comes after a long hiatus, and he noted the warm welcome from the member countries of the group for Syria's return to the bank. The Minister expressed gratitude to the bank's management for reinstating Syria's membership in the group, and for the swift work on several projects within Syria, as well as the humanitarian aid provided.
