Curriculum Vitae of the Syrian Minister of Economy, Nidal Al-Shaar

Ahmed Al-Shar'a, the head of the Syrian Transitional Stage, issued a decision on Saturday, March 29, 2025, appointing Dr. Nidal Al-Sha'ar as the Minister of Economy in the formation of the new Syrian government.
Al-Sha'ar has a rich academic and professional background, holding a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Aleppo University (1980), a Master's degree in Finance and International Investment from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. in Monetary and International Economics from the same university, in addition to another Master's degree in International Business from the University of South Dakota.
He previously served as Minister of Economy and Trade (2011-2012), chaired the Supreme Council for Investment, and held prominent international positions, including Secretary-General of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions in Bahrain (2002-2012), and President of the American Syrian Business Association.
He worked as an economic advisor at the World Bank, an advisor for emerging markets at the Netherlands Stock Exchange, and as a director of the Syrian Central Bank branch in Aleppo. He also taught at Aleppo University and George Washington University, and trained staff at global exchanges such as Singapore, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
He authored important economic books, including "Stock Market" and "Principles of Islamic and Traditional Banking Business," and received prestigious awards such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Banking Excellence (2006), and was listed by Georgetown University as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.
