Syrian Engineers Union Launches Initiatives to Support Returnees and Enhance Development

Malik Haj Ali, the head of the Syrian Engineers Union, announced a series of measures aimed at facilitating the integration of engineers returning from abroad into the local job market, organizing the registration of their companies, to support their active participation in the reconstruction and sustainable development in Syria.
Haj Ali explained to SANA agency that the union has formed an "Investment Committee" to enhance communication with Syrian and Arab investors, establish investment partnerships, noting that the committee is working on feasibility studies for projects related to the engineers' retirement fund, some of which are presented for investment, providing "real job opportunities for engineers".
He added that the union participates in setting technical specifications for engineering works, collaborates with engineering colleges and institutes to review educational curricula, and contributes to improving the performance of the public sector and its role in development plans, by preparing laws related to the engineering profession, construction regulations, and urban planning.
He highlighted the union's efforts in encouraging engineering talents, supporting scientific research, protecting inventors' rights, as well as enhancing cooperation with Arab and international engineering organizations. He also stated that the number of union members is 207,351 engineers, explaining that the union provides them with various services including health insurance, loans, and retirement security.
Haj Ali emphasized the union's keenness to strengthen relations with Syrian expatriate engineers and international bodies, through participation in conferences and seminars, establishing scientific libraries, and publishing engineering books. It also organizes training courses in cooperation with engineering colleges and international entities to enhance the engineers' efficiency.
