Syria is anticipating a significant political announcement this week, as sources revealed that the new Syrian government will be announced next Saturday, marking a decisive step in the transitional phase following the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad. Sources also indicated that tomorrow, Friday, will witness the announcement of the new Fatwa Council and the appointment of Syria's Mufti, as part of restructuring the religious institutions in the country after recent political changes. This announcement comes after three months since the fall of the Assad regime, which ruled for about 14 years and ended on December 8th last year. Since then, the new authorities have taken over, announcing in mid-March a "constitutional declaration" outlining the transitional phase for five years, during which the transitional President Ahmed al-Shara will assume executive authority in the country. The interim government formed after the fall of the previous regime was tasked with managing state affairs for only three months, with the announcement of a permanent transitional government scheduled for early this month. However, political developments and challenges facing the country led to postponing this announcement until next Saturday. President Ahmed al-Shara had confirmed since taking office on January 29 that the upcoming phase will witness fundamental changes, including issuing a comprehensive constitutional declaration and forming a "preparatory committee" to select a mini legislative council, in addition to dissolving the previous People's Council. As the country awaits these crucial steps, the most pressing question remains: Who will lead Syria in the transitional phase? And how will these changes impact the country's future? All eyes are on Friday and Saturday, as Syria stands at a new crossroads that may shape its future for years to come.
