Sweden.. 12-year prison sentence for a woman who committed war crimes in Syria.

The Stockholm Court in Sweden has sentenced a woman to 12 years in prison for "genocide and crimes against humanity" committed in Raqqa, Syria in 2015.
The court stated in a press release that "the verdict issued today, Tuesday, February 11, relates to attacks carried out by ISIS against villages in the Sinjar region in northeastern Syria in August 2014."
The court estimated that "the charges against the 52-year-old convict warranted a 16-year sentence, but it was reduced to 12 years, taking into account previous penalties imposed on her, with each victim being awarded compensation of 150,000 Swedish Krona."
The court stated that "the convict held three women and six children from the Yazidi community in her house in Raqqa in 2015 for five months, after they were captured by the organization following the attack on Yazidi villages in Sinjar in 2014."
It added that the detainees were subjected to "enslavement," physical and verbal abuse by the convict, deprivation of food and basic needs, and restriction of their freedoms.
According to the court statement, some detainees were later freed by smugglers months after leaving the convict's house, but three of the children were not released until seven years later, while one young girl remains missing.
The court noted that these crimes were part of a widespread and systematic attack, amounting to "genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes."
The court found that the woman participated in the organization's attack against the Yazidi community, where her actions were part of a systematic pattern in line with its strategy.
According to a report released by the U.S. State Department in 2019, ISIS abducted over 9,000 Yazidis in what was described as a "genocidal campaign."
