Russian airspace witnessed severe disruptions in civil aviation today, Sunday, July 6th, due to Ukrainian drone attacks, prompting authorities to suspend flights at several major airports in the country.
According to the official Russian news agency "TASS," flights were temporarily suspended at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, as well as at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg. Flight operations were also halted in the vicinity of the city of Kirov, located about 800 kilometers northeast of the capital.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that Russian air defenses successfully shot down six Ukrainian drones approaching the capital. Authorities also announced the destruction of seven drones in the Kaluga region southwest of Moscow, and the downing of two other drones near St. Petersburg.
Despite the scale of the attacks, Russia has not yet disclosed details of the losses or damages resulting from these attacks.
These developments come amid the ongoing war that Ukraine has been fighting for over three years to defend its territories against the extensive Russian military operation. Kiev has recently been targeting Russian depth through repeated drone attacks, attempting to disrupt vital facilities and centers within Russia.
Despite these strikes, the damage caused by Ukrainian drones does not compare to the widespread destruction inflicted by intense Russian strikes on Ukrainian territories using drones and missiles.
