Sudan.. Rising bread prices ignite public anger and calls for a boycott of purchases

The Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and several other states have witnessed widespread discontent following the announcement by some bakeries to raise the price of a loaf from 150 to 200 pounds, amid a severe economic crisis the country is experiencing.
According to a report published by the Sudanese Opinion Platform, citizens are now receiving only five loaves for a thousand pounds, which has sparked a wave of anger on social media, where activists have called for a boycott of bread purchases in protest against what they described as an unjustified increase.
Activists circulated video clips of scattered protests in some neighborhoods of Khartoum, along with demands for authorities to intervene urgently to impose price controls and open an investigation into the reasons for the sudden increase, amid a lack of transparency in determining the actual production costs.
For their part, bakery owners justified the decision by citing rising costs of essential materials such as flour, oil, and fuel, confirming that this forced them to adjust prices.
Economic experts warned that the continued rise in bread and essential goods prices could increase the suffering of citizens, especially with the ongoing decline in the value of the Sudanese pound against foreign currencies and the overall rise in living costs.
