Members of the Subcommittee in Latakia Take the Oath of Office in Preparation for the People's Council Elections

A detailed explanation was provided during the meeting regarding the mechanisms of the subcommittees' work, the method of selecting members of the electoral bodies in coordination with official and community activities, in addition to emphasizing adherence to the executive instructions issued under Decree No. 143 concerning the temporary electoral system, the required criteria for candidates, and the coordination mechanisms between the subcommittees and the Higher Committee.
In her statement during the meeting, Yara Aizouqi, a member of the Higher Election Committee, stressed the importance of forming a new People's Council capable of rectifying the stalled laws that affect citizens' lives, affirming her confidence in Syrian women's competencies, and noting that the instructions stipulate that the representation of women in the electoral body should not be less than 20%, with the possibility of resorting to “weighting the main third” to ensure adequate representation if the results are insufficient.
The taking of the oath in Latakia comes one day after the members of the subcommittees in the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Idlib, Tartus, Homs, Hama, and Aleppo completed the legal procedures before representatives of the Higher Election Committee, as part of the national preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
