In a move aimed at easing tensions between the two Koreas and enhancing confidence-building efforts, the South Korean Ministry of Defense announced that it has begun dismantling about 20 loudspeakers along the border between the Koreas, which were used to broadcast anti-North Korea propaganda.
The ministry confirmed that the removal of these loudspeakers, which is expected to be completed within two to three days, is part of a practical process aimed at reducing tensions without compromising military readiness.
This step came after South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol issued a decision in June to suspend propaganda broadcasts via loudspeakers at the border, as part of efforts to ease tensions and rebuild trust between the two countries.
North Korea responded by halting the loud noise broadcasts that targeted the South.
This shift in policy reflects Seoul's desire to improve relations with Pyongyang amid ongoing caution and tension on the Korean Peninsula.
