The Syrian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor organized a dialogue workshop today, Wednesday, entitled "Preliminary Foundations for Developing the Law of Non-Governmental Organizations," at the ministry building in Damascus.
According to "SANA," Minister of Social Affairs Hind Kabawat stated that the workshop signifies the current focus on building a new state in partnership with all governmental and civil society entities to achieve a strong unified state. She emphasized that dialogue is open between the ministry and non-governmental organizations to build a free Syria that the Syrian people aspire to.
In addition, the advisor at the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, Bahjat Hajjar, explained that the workshop is the beginning of other workshops aimed at reaching the optimal law regulating the work of non-governmental organizations in Syria. Hajjar mentioned that the current law needs amendments to build trust between civil society and governmental entities through a genuine partnership framing the work of these organizations.
Furthermore, board member of the Union of Associations Haitham Sultaji emphasized the importance of the workshop in achieving a significant transformation in the work of non-governmental organizations in Syria to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people. He pointed out the importance of the ministry's new vision in creating a space for dialogue, discussion, idea exchange, policy and law debates, highlighting mistakes, and providing appropriate solutions for correction.
It is worth mentioning that the workshop included representatives from non-governmental organizations in Syria.
