The U.S. Central Command "CENTCOM" announced on Saturday, March 1, 2025, through its official website, that it had successfully killed a prominent leader in the "Guardians of Religion" organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda in a airstrike in northwestern Syria, named "Mohammed Youssef Diaa Talaai".
In a statement on its official website, it stated: "The U.S. Central Command "CENTCOM" carried out a precise airstrike in northwestern Syria, targeting and killing Mohammed Youssef Diaa Talaai, the senior military commander of the "terrorist" Guardians of Religion organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda".
It continued: "This airstrike is part of the ongoing commitment of the Central Command, alongside its partners in the region, to deter and reduce the efforts of "terrorists" who plan, organize, and carry out attacks against civilians and military personnel from the United States, our allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond".
General Michael Eric Kurilla, the commander of the U.S. Central Command, stated: "As we have said in the past, we will continue to relentlessly pursue these "terrorists" to defend our homeland, U.S. personnel, and our allies and partners in the region".
This operation comes in the context of the U.S. Central Command's targeting of leaders of the Guardians of Religion organization in northeastern Syria, as it had previously announced its success in killing the leader Waseem Hussain Bariqdar on February 21 of this year.
