A flight of "American Airlines" was forced to make an emergency landing after half an hour of takeoff, following a passenger receiving a text message containing the phrase "RIP", which was mistakenly interpreted as a security threat endangering the flight's safety.
The plane was en route from San Juan in Puerto Rico to Dallas, and landed in Isla Verde area on Thursday morning local time.
The passenger informed the flight crew of a suspicious message, prompting the flight attendant to inform the cockpit, which then followed emergency safety protocols.
Immediately, the Explosives and Public Safety Office in the US territory intervened, confirming no actual threat, allowing the plane to take off again and continue its journey to Texas safely.
The incident caused panic among passengers, but ended without any harm, amid warnings about the misunderstanding of short text messages and their impact on aviation safety.
