The Libyan Attorney General's Office announced the liberation of 76 illegal migrants who were forcibly detained north of the city of Kufra, in addition to the recovery of 28 bodies buried in the same area, as part of efforts to combat illegal migration and human trafficking.
According to a statement issued today, Sunday, by the Public Prosecution, investigations revealed an organized criminal network involved in exploiting migrants and subjecting them to harsh and inhumane conditions.
Teams from the anti-illegal migration agency in the southeast region, with the support of the Subul Al-Salam Battalion, managed to raid the site used by the network to detain migrants, where they were subjected to torture and degrading treatment.
Furthermore, 28 bodies were found buried in the vicinity of the site, and the Public Prosecution ordered the summoning of forensic experts to determine the causes of death.
As part of the investigations, the Public Prosecution confirmed that it continues to document the testimonies of the detained victims, while three suspects, including a Libyan and two others of different foreign nationalities, were arrested and referred to the investigative authority to complete legal procedures.
