A significant decrease in Syrian asylum applications in the European Union to the lowest level in a decade.

Data from the European Asylum Support Office showed a decrease in the number of asylum applications submitted by Syrians to EU countries during the month of February, marking the lowest level in over a decade.
According to the data, the number of applications was only around 5000, a 34% decrease compared to the previous month of January.
Statistics indicated that Syrians have dropped from being the largest group of asylum seekers in Europe, with Venezuelans and Afghans topping the list, while Syrians now rank third.
Commenting on the numbers, EU Commissioner for Migration, Ylva Johansson, emphasized the importance of stability in other regions for Europe, as reflected in the recent asylum figures.
On the other hand, the United Nations pointed out the return of hundreds of thousands of Syrians who had sought refuge in neighboring countries back to their homeland after the fall of the previous Syrian regime, which may be one of the factors contributing to the decrease in asylum applications to Europe.
