In a prominent stance reflecting a change in US policy towards Syria, Republican Senator Joe Wilson affirmed that fully lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act aligns perfectly with President Donald Trump's agenda to give Syria a new chance.
Wilson wrote in a post on X platform: "I appreciate the efforts of my colleagues on the Congressional Financial Services Committee to discuss simplifying the sanctions imposed on Syria in a timely manner, and I believe that repealing the Caesar Act entirely will help open up new horizons for Syria".
The senator warned that the continuation of the Caesar Act for years will hinder reconstruction efforts in Syria in the long term, potentially leading to the resurgence of terrorist ISIS activity in the region.
It is worth noting that Wilson had announced on the twelfth of last month the introduction of formal legislation to Congress aimed at fully repealing the Caesar Act and its sanctions on Syria.
