Security Tension in Al-Suwayda: Clashes, Power Cuts, and Warnings of Escalating Situation

Al-Suwayda province is witnessing a dangerous escalation in the field and security, with ongoing armed clashes in several neighborhoods, leading to power outages in several 'distribution points' in the city, directly affected by the current events.

In a tragic incident, the electricity network worker Ehsan Al-Shatir was killed by a bullet while repairing the damaged lines, as maintenance teams face extreme difficulties in reaching the affected sites due to deteriorating security conditions.

The movement of Men of Dignity, one of the prominent civil activities in Al-Suwayda, issued a strongly worded statement warning of the danger of escalation, considering that what is happening 'does not serve the interest of any party but threatens civil peace and paves the way for chaos'.

The statement emphasized that the roots of the escalation are 'clear and recurring', starting - as described by the movement - from the deliberate absence of the state's role in protecting the vital road connecting Damascus and Al-Suwayda, especially at the named checkpoint, where civilians are subjected to repeated violations and assaults.

The movement held the Syrian government primarily responsible for the worsening situation due to its failure to protect citizens and secure roads, also accusing some local parties of 'sufficing with empty slogans and shirking responsibilities'.

The Men of Dignity movement stressed that calmness is a position of strength, not weakness, calling on everyone to return to reason and work towards the stability of Al-Suwayda and the preservation of civil peace, warning that the continued official absence will lead to further security deterioration and societal division.

In the midst of this intertwined scene, Al-Suwayda remains at a dangerous crossroads, where the responsibilities of the government and the local community intersect with growing fears of tension spreading to other areas, threatening civil peace in the entire southern region of Syria.
