The Russian Foreign Ministry condemns Israel's targeting of Al Jazeera journalists: a blatant violation of press freedom

The Russian Foreign Ministry considered that the targeting of Al Jazeera journalists by the Israeli army in Gaza constitutes a "blatant attack on press freedom" and a clear violation of international law.

Alexei Fadeyev, Deputy Director of the Ministry's Information and Press Department, stated in a media briefing that what happened represents a new example of the "systematic practices" committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories against those it considers enemies or adversaries, emphasizing that these methods "deserve the strongest condemnation".

Al Jazeera announced the death of five of its employees, including reporter Anas Al-Sharif, in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a tent for journalists near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, and Mohammed Al-Khalidi, an employee of the Palestinian news platform "Sahat", was killed in the same attack.

The Israeli army acknowledged targeting Al-Sharif, accusing him of working for Hamas.
