In a new escalation of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday, June 7th, the interception by Russian air defense units of 82 Ukrainian drones in a period not exceeding eight and a half hours, covering the skies of Moscow and its surrounding areas. The ministry clarified through its official Telegram account that most of the drones were destroyed in areas close to the Ukrainian border and within Russian territory, confirming the destruction of six drones heading towards the capital, Moscow. This announcement comes as Russia asserts that the conflict with Ukraine has become an "existential issue," with the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov describing it as a matter of national interest, security, and the future of the country and its children. During the night, Ukraine witnessed intense aerial bombardments in several regions, especially in the west of the country away from the front lines, facing a fierce attack using 407 attack and decoy drones and 45 missiles, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force. The Ukrainian side announced that its air defenses managed to neutralize 199 drones and 36 missiles, directly hitting 13 sites, while 19 other sites were damaged due to missile interception debris. In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed targeting Ukrainian military sites "in response to recent terrorist attacks" carried out by Kiev, threatening to retaliate against attacks on Russian bombers far from the borders. Amid these developments, tension remains high, and the outlook is unclear for the end of the conflict, which is taking on an increasingly dangerous trajectory day by day.
