The U.S. State Department confirmed that its Secretary, Marco Rubio, held a series of important talks with his European counterparts to discuss diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.
This took place during meetings held yesterday, Monday, which included prominent officials such as British Minister David Lammy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, and the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaia Kallas.
In his statements, Sybiha expressed Ukraine's gratitude for Rubio's efforts, praising U.S. President Donald Trump's role in leading peace-making initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine, stressing that these guarantees must be strong, legally binding, effective, and multidimensional, encompassing military, diplomatic, and legal aspects.
Sybiha wrote on the platform "X":
"We all agree that the Ukrainian army is the cornerstone of any security guarantees, and therefore enhancing its capabilities to the fullest is our top priority."
This move comes after President Trump held two separate summits with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before assigning Rubio to lead talks regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, in a step aimed at achieving long-term stability in the region.
