Rubio: We will make our decision on sanctions against Russia later

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hopes to make statements later on Wednesday announcing whether potential sanctions against Russia will be issued this week.
He confirmed that he spoke with special US envoy Steve Witkoff, who is on his way back from a trip to Russia, and that he will have further discussions throughout Wednesday.
When asked whether sanctions against Russia would take effect later this week, Rubio said: "We will talk extensively about this later today," adding that he hopes to make statements that include some announcements soon.
Earlier, Russia said Witkoff had held "useful and constructive" talks with President Vladimir Putin, two days before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or face new sanctions.
