At a press conference held last Tuesday at the new 'Alligator Alcatraz' facility for detaining immigrants in Oshopee, Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis warned billionaire Elon Musk of the dangers of founding a new political party, considering that this step could lead to opposite results and give Democrats control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
DeSantis urged Musk to direct his resources and influence towards more impactful and sustainable issues, such as pushing for a constitutional amendment that would require the federal government to adhere to a balanced budget.
He explained that 28 US states have already approved this amendment, and once 34 states agree, it can be formally drafted and submitted for ratification by three-quarters of the states, as stipulated in the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution.
DeSantis said, 'If Elon wants to have a real impact, this is the optimal way to achieve it'.
The governor pointed out that forming a third party would only serve to dilute conservative voices, thus enhancing the Democrats' chances of winning elections.
He added that the problem lies not only in the rival party but also in the performance of the Republican Party itself in Congress, where members constantly talk about budget control but do not adhere to it practically once in office.
DeSantis criticized the reluctance of Congress members to support significant cuts to the government budget, stating that they have not been enthusiastic about reducing spending nor have they supported Trump's executive orders related to immigration and other issues, despite their legal and executive importance.
He concluded by saying that changing the political and financial reality in Washington requires genuine constitutional reform, not just superficial political attempts.
