The "Working Group for Palestinian Syrians" revealed the identities of individuals arrested by the Syrian General Security forces in Damascus following the thwarting of a terrorist attack targeting a security checkpoint in the Bustan al-Dur area. A precise security operation led to the arrest of two elements from the "remnants of the former regime."

According to the human rights group, one of them belongs to the "Free Palestine Movement" led by Sa'id Abdel Aal, which was one of the Palestinian "militias" loyal to the Assad regime in Syria, while the other belongs to the so-called "National Defense" affiliated with the former regime.

As per a statement from the General Security, Mohammad Bitar (a member of the Free Palestine Movement) and Manaf Hamdi (from the National Defense) were arrested with firearms, hand grenades, explosives, and military cards proving their affiliation with armed groups linked to the former regime.

The statement highlighted that the operation is part of the intensive security campaigns carried out by the Syrian authorities to pursue the "remnants of the former regime" involved in sabotage activities.
