A source familiar told "Reuters" that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump today, Wednesday.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had earlier held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday.
Trump had set a deadline for Russia until Friday to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine or face severe economic sanctions.
Alongside Witkoff's visit to Moscow, Zelensky urged Washington to increase pressure on Russia to force it to end the war that has been ongoing in his country since 2022.
Zelensky wrote on social media: "It is extremely important to intensify all the pressure tools that the United States, Europe, and the G7 have" against Russia.
