Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak of Yemen announced his official resignation to the President of the Presidential Council, Rashad al-Alimi, today, Saturday, shortly after taking office. Bin Mubarak explained in a statement that his decision came as a result of the difficulties and challenges he faced, including not being able to exercise his constitutional powers in making necessary reform decisions within state institutions, as well as being prevented from making the governmental changes he deemed necessary. He noted in a post on his "X" platform account that during his short tenure as head of the government, he was able to achieve many important accomplishments within five key priorities he adopted in his work program, including financial and administrative reform paths, combating corruption, activating the presence of state institutions and their leaders in the temporary capital of Aden, and enhancing the utilization of international grants and loans. He expressed gratitude for the support of some of his colleagues in the cabinet and his team members who worked with him under what he described as the calls of well-wishers from the Yemeni people. It is worth noting that bin Mubarak assumed the presidency of the government in February 2024, succeeding Ma'een Abdulmalik, who was appointed as an advisor to the President of the Presidential Council. He previously served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs since late 2020, representing Yemen in the United States and temporarily at the United Nations, amidst the complexities of the Yemeni political scene following the Houthi coup.
