Report: OpenAI's Financial Consumption Forecasts Jump to $115 Billion by 2029

The Information revealed that the company OpenAI, the developer of the popular chat application Chat GPT, has raised its estimates for expected cash liquidity for spending until 2029 to $115 billion.
These new figures represent a significant jump of $80 billion from the company's previous forecasts, amid intensified spending on a massive cloud computing infrastructure to operate AI tools.
According to the report, the company's cash consumption is expected to exceed $8 billion this year, which is about $1.5 billion higher than its previous estimates.
OpenAI is one of the largest cloud computing server tenants in the world.
In this regard, OpenAI did not respond to Reuters' request for comment on these forecasts.
The report indicated expectations of a sharp increase in the company's financial consumption in the coming years, with projections reaching $17 billion in 2025, more than double the previous estimates, then rising to $35 billion in 2027, and $45 billion in 2028.
To address these rising costs, the company is seeking to reduce its reliance on external chip suppliers. Its strategy includes developing its own AI chips and building dedicated data centers to operate its technologies.
The Financial Times previously reported that OpenAI is set to produce its first proprietary AI chip next year in partnership with Broadcom, to be used internally within its operations rather than being offered to customers.
