The Libyan capital, Tripoli, witnessed new armed confrontations between security groups on the night of Thursday to Friday, in a clear violation of the previously announced ceasefire. According to media sources, clashes erupted between forces loyal to the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, and elements from the Deterrence Force and the Judicial Police, near Sector "B" of the University of Tripoli in the Fernaj area.

Sources confirmed that "elements from the 444th Combat Brigade loyal to Dbeibah exchanged gunfire with elements from the Deterrence Force and the Judicial Police," leading to heightened security tensions in the area. However, "the conflict resolution force intervened and positioned itself in a location between the two parties to enforce a ceasefire and prevent the renewal of clashes."

This escalation comes at a time when there are fears of the collapse of the fragile ceasefire between the armed parties, especially after Dbeibah's agreement with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, last June to "remove armed manifestations from the capital, in order to end the security chaos and establish state control."

Tripoli had witnessed bloody confrontations last May following the killing of Abdel Ghani al-Kikli, head of the Stability Support Authority affiliated with the Presidential Council, which sparked a wave of public anger and accusations against Dbeibah's government of "stirring chaos, igniting war in Tripoli, and strengthening armed militias."
