The French car manufacturer "Renault" stated that the French Ministry of Defense has officially contacted them to discuss the possibility of assisting in the production of drones, as part of a French effort to support Ukraine technologically and militarily amid escalating tensions with Russia.
The company clarified in a statement that they have engaged in initial discussions with the ministry, but no decision has been made yet, awaiting further details about the nature of the project and the roles required of them.
This comes after the news site "France Info" revealed the French government's intention to launch drone production lines inside Ukraine, tens or hundreds of kilometers away from the frontlines, without disclosing the sources of this information.
In response to the report, the French Ministry of Defense neither confirmed nor denied Renault's specific involvement, stating that the final decision lies with the concerned company.
Meanwhile, the French Defense Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, announced that the government is establishing a partnership between a major French car manufacturer and a small defense establishment to produce drones inside Ukraine to support the Ukrainian army, as well as for use in French military exercises.
The model of these drones has not been announced, but the minister confirmed that they will be designed to meet real field needs based on Ukraine's experience, which plans to operate over 4.5 million drones this year and is among the most advanced countries in this field.
At the same time, the French army aims to compensate for its relative delay in drone technology through cooperation with Kyiv, which recently carried out drone attacks against deep Russian targets, including military facilities in Siberia, using concealed drones inside trucks.
This French move comes in the context of escalating military cooperation with Ukraine, amid Western efforts to provide Kyiv with modern war tools without direct involvement in the conflict.
