Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, affirmed during his participation in a session at the Doha Forum on Global Security, his country's enduring commitment to supporting the Syrian people, noting that Qatar has remained supportive of their demands in confronting the previous regime for over 14 years.

Al-Khulaifi stated: "We were among the few countries that adhered to their political stance, standing by the Syrians against a brutal regime, and today we believe in real opportunities for Syrians to recover and prosper," expressing his confidence in a bright future awaiting Syria after the success of its revolution.

The Qatari minister pointed out direct communication between his government and the new Syrian government, explaining that Doha continues to support sustainable development in Syria through tangible projects. "We are working to encourage Syrians to build and reconstruct, and we have actually started several developmental projects," he stated.

Al-Khulaifi revealed recent Qatari initiatives, including supporting a project to supply electricity through Jordan, saying: "Today we announce our support for this vital project."

He also announced a joint initiative with Saudi Arabia to settle Syria's debts to the World Bank, estimated at around $15 million, according to Qatari and Saudi news agencies.

He explained that this step aims to enable the World Bank to resume its operations in Syria after a 14-year hiatus, considering it as a "real start for the return of international developmental support to the country."

He added: "Debt settlement will open the door for Syria to benefit from new financial allocations, as well as contribute to supporting vital sectors, rehabilitating state institutions, providing necessary technical support for policy development, and building national capacities."

It is worth mentioning that the Doha Forum on Global Security is currently being held in Doha with the participation of international officials and experts to discuss global security and development issues.
