Qatar has expressed its extreme surprise at the missile attack launched by Iran on Al-Udeid Air Base, describing it as "unexpected and unjustified" in light of what it considered positive positions it has always taken towards Tehran.
The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majid Al-Ansari, said during a press conference in Doha that the military operation carried out by Iran under the name "Fath Annasr" constitutes a "blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty" and a clear violation of international law and principles of good neighborliness.
Al-Ansari added that the response to this aggression will be determined based on internal discussions at the highest levels in the country, confirming that "Qatar reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law".
Meanwhile, Brigadier Shaheen Al-Hajri, Deputy Chief of Staff for Joint Operations, announced that the Qatari air defenses intercepted 19 missiles launched by Iran, all of which were destroyed except for one missile that fell inside Al-Udeid Air Base, without any casualties recorded.
The Qatari Ministry of Interior stated that some missile fragments fell in nearby residential areas, but did not result in any human casualties.
Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar is not part of any military escalation in the region, stressing that his country is working with all parties for de-escalation, not escalation.
Qatar's statements come at a time when Gulf and Arab sources have expressed full support for Qatar in the face of this aggression, while the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council expressed "surprise at Iran's targeting of Qatar at a time when efforts are being made to stop escalation in the region".
