President Donald Trump announced today, Monday, the acceptance of a luxurious plane offered by Qatar to be used as a presidential aircraft. Trump stated in a press conference today that "the plane offered by Qatar as a gift to the US Department of Defense, presenting me with a plane by Qatar is a great gesture." White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt also confirmed on Monday that Qatar has offered to gift a plane to the United States, and the details are still being studied. The possible transfer of a plane for temporary use as a presidential aircraft is currently under consideration between the Qatari Ministry of Defense and the US Department of Defense, as stated by Ali Al-Ansari, the media attaché at the Qatari Embassy in Washington. No decision has been made yet. The US Constitution prohibits government officials from accepting gifts "from any king, prince, or foreign state" under the emoluments clause. The American president has long been dissatisfied with the two presidential planes that have undergone significant modifications. Earlier this year, he announced that his administration is "looking for alternatives" to Boeing after delays in delivering two new planes.
