Putin and Xi Discuss Russian-American Communications on the Sidelines of the Shanghai Summit in Tianjin

Yuri Ushakov, assistant to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that the Russian president discussed with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping the recent communications that took place between Moscow and Washington during their meeting today, Sunday, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in the coastal city of Tianjin, northern China, according to Russian media reports.

Ushakov did not reveal details of the discussions but indicated that the meeting addressed developments in international relations amid rising tensions between Russia and the United States, especially after the summit that brought Putin together with U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month in Alaska.

This meeting comes as part of strengthening coordination between Moscow and Beijing, amid a shared direction towards building a multipolar international system and expanding cooperation in the fields of security, energy, and technology, within the agenda of the Shanghai summit, which witnesses wide participation from leaders of member states.
