In a move that reflects Syria's new directions towards diplomatic openness and international cooperation, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara issued today, Tuesday, decree number "142" for the year 2025, appointing Ibrahim Abdul Malik Alabi as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador and permanent representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations in New York.
This appointment comes during a transitional phase the country is experiencing, where Alabi is seen as one of the most prominent legal and diplomatic figures who contributed to reshaping the relationship between Syria and the international community after the fall of the previous regime on December 8, 2024.
Who is Ibrahim Abdul Malik Alabi?
Ibrahim Alabi is a prominent legal and diplomatic figure, known for his active role in international justice and human rights issues. He has served as the legal advisor to the Syrian Foreign Minister since the end of the fallen regime, where he was tasked with several sensitive missions, most notably:
• Working to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria.
• Contributing to dismantling the chemical weapons arsenal of the previous regime.
• Cooperating with international organizations concerned with justice and accountability.
• Participating in high-level diplomatic meetings in New York, Geneva, and The Hague.
