President of the European Commission: Images of civilians being killed in Gaza while distributing humanitarian aid are unbearable

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today, Tuesday, that images of civilians being killed in Gaza while distributing humanitarian aid are "unbearable", and reiterated the European Union's call for the safe and swift delivery of humanitarian aid and respect for international law.
Von der Leyen wrote in a post on the social media platform, "Civilians cannot be targeted. Never. The images coming from Gaza are unbearable. The European Union reiterates its call for the free, safe, and swift flow of humanitarian aid, and for full respect for international humanitarian law".
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced yesterday, Monday, that at least a thousand people have been killed and 6,500 others injured while trying to obtain aid in Gaza since late May.
According to the United Nations, most of the injuries occurred as Palestinians headed to distribution sites run by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by Israel and the United States, which began operations on May 27.
