Central African Republic President Plans to Run for Third Term

Touadéra, 68, stated during a meeting of the 'United Hearts Movement' party in the capital Bangui, 'Many of you have asked me, and my answer is yes. I am your candidate for the presidential elections in December 2025.'
He added, 'We will continue working on rebuilding our country.'
Since assuming office in 2016, Touadéra has relied on external forces to stay in power amidst ongoing civil strife, including mercenaries from the Russian private military group 'Wagner' who intervened in 2018 on the government's side.
The Central African Republic, roughly the size of France with a population of around 5.5 million, suffers from extreme poverty despite its rich resources including gold, diamonds, and timber.
