Palestinian Foreign Minister: Recognition of Palestine by Countries is Not a Reward for Hamas

In a statement to "Al Arabiya English", she clarified that the authority is not holding direct talks with Hamas. The minister added: "We hope that the American envoy Steve Witkoff conveys the true picture of Gaza".
Agabkian continued: "Our priority is to save lives and stop the war in the Gaza Strip," noting that if Washington wants to stop the war, it is capable of doing so.
She called for the immediate release of hostages and an immediate halt to the war in the besieged sector.
She also mentioned that the U.S. sanctions on officials of the Palestinian Authority were not surprising, adding: "U.S. sanctions will not deter our efforts towards the upcoming September conference".
The minister stated: "Commitment to the law is the only way to achieve peace," pointing out that any solution other than the two-state solution will not achieve peace or security.
In an interview with the "Fox News" network on Thursday, he considered that recognizing the Palestinian state is "a reward for Hamas, and encourages it to refuse a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip".
These statements come as U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his "dismay and opposition" to the leaders of France, Britain, and Canada regarding the recognition of the state of Palestine, according to his spokesperson Caroline Levitt earlier on Thursday.
