The Director-General of the OPEC International Development Fund, Abdul Hamid Al-Khalifa, announced the institution's readiness to resume its activities in Syria.
Al-Khalifa emphasized that there are plans and strategies ready, awaiting the removal of obstacles preventing their implementation.
On the sidelines of his participation in the Fund's forum in Vienna, Austria, Al-Khalifa mentioned that a delegation from the Fund recently met with the Minister of Finance in the new Syrian government, Mohammad Yasser Bernia, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdul Qader Hossariya, to discuss mechanisms for re-establishing cooperation between the two parties, as reported by "Economy of the East" on Tuesday.
He explained that the Fund intends to provide support to the Syrian government and the private sector as soon as suitable conditions are met, noting that the proposed projects are feasible and have been prepared in anticipation of any improvements in the situation.
Al-Khalifa also noted that the OPEC Fund expanded its activities last year to include four new countries, bringing the total number of countries it currently operates in to 125.
